Presentation of "Legion d'Honneur" to Ambassador Yaşar Yakış

Yasar Yakis decorated by National Order of “Legion d’Honneur”

Yasar Yakis, Deputy of Düzce from AK Party (Justice and Development Party) & head of the European Union Harmonization Committee (Turkish Grand National Assembly) who served formerly as Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey and as Ambassador of Turkey to NATO, Egypt and Saudi Arabia,  was decorated by National Order of “Legion d’Honneur” at a reception hosted by Ambassador of France Bernard Emie and his elegant wife Isabelle.

Yakış, who has already been honored with King Abdul Aziz Decoration, attended this special event with his beautiful daughter Ayşe Başak.

The top guns of the reception were Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul, AK Party Mersin Deputy and Deputy Chairman in Charge of Foreign Affairs Kursad Tuzmen, AK Party Istanbul Deputy and Deputy Chairman Abdulkadir Aksu, deputy Chairman Reha Denemeç, Secretary General of the Presidential Palace  Mustafa Isen. Also, Ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Portugal, Israel, Germany, Netherlands, Georgia, Russia, Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Poland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Latvia, EU Representative and Lebanese Chargé d’Affaire's were present at the event.

Ambassador Emie emphasized in his speech that although H.E. Yakis has never served in France or at any Francophone country, despite his knowledge of perfect French, because of his great contributions to French political circles and parliamentarians and because of his contributions as Head of the French-Turkish Friendship Group of the Parliament, he deserved to be honored by French President’s Order: the “Legion d’Honneur”.

Meanwhile, Yakis said, “I see myself as a simple soldier trying to add a brick to strengthening the French-Turkish relations and I believe anybody in my position would do the same.” He added that this decoration is very precious and it will stay that way all his life.
