Spanish National Day Celebrated

On the occasion of the National Day, the Ambassador of Spain Joan Clos and his wife Angels Bitria hosted a reception.

Breaking the tradition of hosting the Spanish national day at their residence Ambassador Clos hosted a reception to mark the day at Sheraton Hotel & Convention Center which was a great decision as even the Grand ballroom of the hotel was packed with guests. While the government was represented by State Minister and Chief EU Negotiator Egemen Bagiş, many heads of missions headed by the new Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Italian Ambassador Carlo Marsili, deputy heads of missions, AMAC members and Turkish businessman were present at the celebration.

After the arrival of the guests, Ambassador Joan Clos took the floor with Minister Egemen Bagis and visiting Lluís María de PUIG, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Both the host and the guest of honor delivered speeches followed by national anthems of both countries. Then the real celebration started with live Spanish music.

The event was also the starting of Spanish Week in Turkey which will last until the weekend in Ankara and in Istanbul.
