 THE STORY OF CRAZY CRAB



On a full moon night, on the beach, when I was enjoying its reflections on the waves, comfortably laid back on the golden sand, I was disturbed for a chat by a few youngsters.

 

Apparently, it turned out that they were after opening a fish restaurant using my name. Hey, when I say my name, do you know what they called me? – CRAZY CRAB! At first, I thought – hmm! how audacious to call me crazy but then I thought  aren’t well all “crazy in our own humble way?

 

 



Anyway, then I let them tell their story.  They started saying

 

“We have designed a single space for guest to see who is where at a glance.  We worked hard for the space to be modest and simple - even no paintings on the walls. We used natural stone on the floor to give it a feel of the bareness and freshness of nature. We used dimmed light for a calm and smooth feel throughout the day and night. We took great care in choosing our menu. We brought in talented chefs and adventurous cooks. We gave great importance to obtain daily fresh ingredients. We designed an open kitchen to share the excitement of the chefs and to share the delicious activity that goes on in preparation. We have included a large variety of drinks to serve every level of mood and enjoyment. We have welcomed different styles and forms to make the best of whatever we had to give comfort and joy. Even our tables are designed for this.  We will be using the old records but we didn’t give up on the wonders of technology.”  


               

 


And they stopped. I said “‘Well go ahead and fill up the open buffet with salads, mezes and zeytinyagli kinds” and they said “Great idea!”  You know - I have been around about enough to see the depressed meze waiter holding his tray of mezes by the table.  I tell you – not my style at all!  I must say that these children are clever so they agreed, then I said “This shall be the way for lunch times”. And they said “As you wish!”


 They were so easy going so I agreed to work with them. After all, they can’t find any better than me. I have spent all my life in the ocean, migrating from one bay to another through the currents. I have spent a life time with cultures and other crusties deep down in the oceans. If you say, Belgian style moules marineres, be sure that it is on your table in 10 minutes- even moules au vin blanc – which ever you choose. If you say Canadian Crab Leg, it’s on its way with a drop of “ice wine” on its leg.  Hey, what now? why are you laughing? Why should I be jealous of the others coz of their size – Never! If you want Mediterranean fatty tuna - here you are! I will serve you the best. After all, fatty tuna and I have been sharing the same waters of the Mediterranean for all these years.

 

To cut the longs story short, never say “what would the Ankaranians know about fish and seafood?” I know damn well that they are experts on fish and sea food and very picky for their appetite.


 


 Hey by the way – No astronomical prices saying “Sir, we have imported these ingredients all the way from……and ta ta ti ta ta taa”  No excuses for price or for quality! I thought that you enjoy these delicates as much as you like

and I will figure out a way to deal with the rest.

 

By the way, don’t miss the black board inside! I will be chalking down the daily fresh fish kinds and the specialties of the day.

Well I guess with all my hard-work, the undeserved fish and sea food reputation of Ankara will be vanished. What do you say?
